Africa’s mineral wealth and abundant natural resources are no secret. What we also know of much of these commodities is that, in many African countries, the profits yielded from the industries established with the purpose of securing the wealth and inheritance of the citizens of these nations, more often than not, end up in the hands of greedy politicians, easily bribed leaders, and in the pockets of the mostly foreign multinational CEOs and the companies they work for.

For decades, this has been the narrative of a dire situation that only seems to be worsening, and having equally devastating effects in both the lives of those who live in these areas, and the environment surrounding them.

Nigerian photographer, George Osodi, who comes from Nigeria’s oil rich southeastern Niger Delta region, has seen firsthand just how disastrous and traumatic the exploitation of these communities and the natural resources in these regions they occupy can be. These images show two specific areas where these distressing conditions have become the norm - in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region, and in an illegal gold mine in Ghana.

queen of booty? you don’t say /sarcasm

I absolutely love the fact that white women, particularly white women in the United States, are embracing their curves…are loving their booties, and are realizing that having some meat on your thighs and some jiggle in the rear is amazing.

What I don’t love…what I don’t find amazing is that even though black, Puerto Rican, Brazilian, Jamaican, Haitian, Dominican, Cuban, Trininidadian, Beijan, Bermudan, Colombian, Mexican and pretty much any woman from ANY African country etc have BEEN loving their curves and showing off their booties forever, somehow, the credit for bringing these body type to the main stream, has gone to people like Kim Kardashian.

She has enough hate going her way, this is not me adding to that. I do not blame her for this. I am, however, fucking tired of hearing her being referred to as the queen of booty…or of people who know nothing about twerking beyond Miley Cyrus.

If Kim Kardashian is the queen of booty, then I am the first Puerto Rican to have ever cooked some rice and beans.

I realize that some of you have never heard of the folks above, so take this as a history lesson. Enjoy your Kim and enjoy your Miley, but give credit where it is due, not where they tell you.

Now go shake that booty and love it.

mastersynn:

But there’s a reason. There’s a reason. There’s a reason for this, there’s a reason education SUCKS, and it’s the same reason it will never, ever, EVER be fixed.

It’s never going to get any better, don’t look for it, be happy with what you’ve got.

Because the owners, the owners of this…

Education is Indoctrination.
